Best Waylon Jennings Songs

Waylon Jennings

I did a Willie Nelson article, site or review so I just had to do a Waylon Jennings review. Here are some of my favorite Waylon Jennings songs. Waylon Jennings was born in Littlefield, Texas on June 15, 1937 and started playing guitar at the age of eight years old. From his very early teenage years Waylon Jennings began performing from radio stations in Texas. Originally Waylon was named Wayland, but his mother changed it to Waylon when she realized that Wayland was the name of a college. Waylon Jennings became a disc jockey in Lubbock, Texas, instead of finishing high school and his radio shows became very popular.

In the early 1970's Waylon Jennings began recording what is called "outlaw country" music with Willie Nelson. In 1976 Waylon and Willie, along with Jessie Colter and Tompall Glaser recorded the album called Wanted! The Outlaws, which was a huge commercial success. Waylon and Willie would go on to record other great albums, in the late 1970's. In the 1980's Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson formed a group, known as the Highwaymen that was very popular as well. Waylon Jennings died in 2002 at the age of 64.

I'll Go Back To Her
I'll Go Back to Her is from the "Are You Ready for the Country" album released in 1976. The album "Are You Ready for the Country" was named after a song from Neil Young's Harvest album back in 1972. Here is a sample of some of the great lyrics from the song "I'll Go Back To Her"...I'll go back to her where I'm wanted... and maybe I can make up for the wrong...in spite of all I've done she still wants me...so I'll go back to her where I belong...walking out on her wasn't easy but without a second thought I left her there...

A Couple More Years
A couple more years is also from Waylon's Are You Ready for the Country" album released in 1976. Here is a small excerpt from the song "A Couple More Years"....now I've got a couple more years on you babe and that's all...I've had more chances to fly and more places to fall...It's not that I'm wiser it's just that I've spent, more time with my back to the wall...and I've picked up a couple a more years on you babe and that's all...

Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way
"Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" is a Waylon Jennings song that was originally a single but also was released on Waylon's: Dreaming My Dreams album from 1975. I love singing along to this great song! ...rhinestone suits and new shiny cars...It's been the same way for years...we need to change...somebody told me, when I came to Nashville...son you finally got it made...old Hank made it here and we're all sure that you will, but I don't think Hank done it this way, no...I don't think Hank done it this way...

Wurlitzer Prize
"The Wurlitzer Prize-I Don't Want to Get Over You-" is a single from 1977 that was written by Waylon. This a wonderful country song...they oughta give me the wurlitzer prize...for all the silver I let slide down the slot...playing those songs sung blue...they help me remember you...because I don't wanna get over you...I don't wanna get over you...

This Time
This Time is the title track from Waylon Jennings album of the same name- This Time, which was released in 1974...this time if I should feel unwanted, I won't stay...each tomorrow will depend on the love you give today..

I'll Go Back To Her
"I'll Go Back To Her" is from the "Are You Ready for the Country" album that was released in 1976....walking out on her wasn't easy...but without a second thought I left her there...I gave my all and did it all to please you...but the more I seem to do the less you care...

Them Old Love Songs
Them Old Love Songs" is also from the "Are You Ready for the Country" album that was released in 1976...down them dusty dixie roads...my old levis dragging tracks...nobody cares about where I'm going...they all know I'm coming back...This song has always been one of my all time favorite Waylon songs.

Waylon had many more wonderful old country songs throughout the years like "Can't You See", "MacArthur Park", "Good Ol' Boys", "Amanda" ,"Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys", "Good Hearted Woman and Luckenbach, Texas". I hope you enjoyed reminiscing with me!
